about

Equinox springs into the RF catalog with finesse and love for the music and subculture. You can feel it in the rhythm and sound. The spirit of the motherland celebrated across all tribes and styles. This is house music as it burns in the heart of Rennie Foster and also within the unique title track of this dual offering.

The accompanying Heretic takes a similar palette and creates an edgier sun spot of chaotic broken 808s and rolling melodic bells. This track is the grimier side of modern deep techno and expresses Rennie's long term vision for underground house music. A constant return to the warehouse floor.

Remixes come from Volksfreude, with a club friendly voyage and a colder minimal dub by Canadian artist James Hopkins. Both versions twist the vocal into completely distinct contexts, Particularly in Volksfreude's flip, added elements build and reveal many hidden dimensions. Hopkin's goes the other way with solid technical deconstruction.

Equinox is the second in a series of three artist EPs by Rennie Foster that feature cover design by Canadian photographer Tomas Jirku.

The sound of RF, the label, is much like a Rennie Foster DJ set, a unique style that references several eras and genres, and yet remains completely distinct. RF pays homage to Detroit techno, Chicago house music, B-boy culture and all other subculture that fuels Rennie's rebellious and infamous presence in the underground. ... more
